Difference Between IELTS and PTE
The IELTS (International English Language Testing Systems) and PTE (Pearson Test of English) Examinations are renowned tests for the English language; however they are not the same.

The IELTS is conducted by The British Council, IDP Education and The Cambridge English Language Assessment.
On the other hand, the PTE or The Pearson Test of English was introduced in 2009. It is one of the most recent entrants in the domain of testing and certifying non-native candidates on their expertise of the English language. Edexcel and QCA accredit this examination. The former is the largest examining body of the UK.
The IELTS Examination is the most popular English language proficiency test for native speakers in Europe and Australia. Most Universities in the USA also accept IELTS scores.
Both the IELTS and the PTE examinations have two common versions- Academic and General.
However, the PTE has an additional version called The Young Learners Test. The Academic versions of the tests are applicable to candidates who appear for university admissions and the general versions of the IELTS and PTE apply to candidates who wish to join jobs in foreign lands. The PTE Young Learner’s Test is applicable to children to test and guarantee their realistic communication skills in the English language.

However, in the PTE Examination, the candidate needs to speak into a microphone and the speech is recorded into a computerized system. This program of the computer evaluates the speaking abilities of the candidate and rates the test taker.
The IELTS Examination is a paper-based one and uses a graph, diagram or a chart for testing the writing skills of the candidate.
The PTE examination, on the other hand, uses the computer to evaluate the candidate with innovative and unique techniques.

The IELTS Examination has set times for each paper and the candidate may move forward or backward.
However, the PTE Examination has timings for each section and the candidates can only move forward.
PTE is based on a complete automated scoring pattern and it grades the candidate on a band of 10-90.
The IELTS examination scores are manual and the candidate is rated on a band of 0-9.

However, the makers of the PTE examination will receive their scores online after 5 business days.
